One Piece x Nike: the Devil Fruits become Air Max Plus

One Piece x Nike: the Devil Fruits become Air Max Plus

It is official: Nike and One Piece are joining forces for a worldwide collection, and the result lives up to both legends. Unveiled in late August and launched in early September 2026, the collaboration turns the mythical Devil Fruits into sneakers: three Air Max Plus with fully reworked uppers embody Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Mi, Ace's Mera Mera no Mi and Law's Ope Ope no Mi. Around the shoes, a whole wardrobe (jerseys, manga-panel tees, caps) celebrates the Straw Hat crew. And Bandai is never far away: exclusive cards come with selected in-store purchases, enough to make One Piece Card Game players drool.

Each colourway tells a power. The Gomu Gomu mixes purple, acid green and sporty red to express Luffy's elasticity and boundless energy; the official campaign even stages it on a basketball court wrapped in giant rubber arms. The Mera Mera blazes in orange and yellow tones as a tribute to Ace's flames, while the Ope Ope goes for a more mystical palette (dark berry, jade, deep green) evoking Law's Room and his surgical control of space. All three pairs retail at 210 US dollars.

Much more than sneakers

The collection extends to apparel and accessories: jerseys, tees reprinting reimagined manga panels, caps, and even a gilet inspired by the effects of the Devil Fruits. As a tasty nod to purists, some designs feature the Jolly Roger as drawn by Luffy himself, clumsy and brilliant. The whole line owns its fashion positioning as much as its fan service, in line with the great anime collaborations of recent years.

Four exclusive One Piece Card Game cards

This is the part that interests us most at FoxTCG: Bandai backs the collaboration with a Premium Card Collection, Nike Collaboration Edition, made of four brand-new cards. The centrepiece is a Monkey D. Luffy character card (P-099) with an illustration created for the occasion. On the Japanese version, drawn in black and white like a manga page, Gear 5 Luffy leaps under a huge Nike swoosh lettered in katakana, wearing the collab's Air Max Plus whose soles burst out of the frame, with a speech bubble already turned cult: « In our world, Devil Fruits are Nikes ». Even the Jolly Roger is reworked: a swoosh crosses the skull's face in place of the eyes. The English version shows Gear 5 Luffy in a coloured anime style, sneakers on as well.

The three DON!! cards are just as polished: each one stages a Devil Fruit Air Max Plus as a full illustration, treated like a character in its own right, against giant manga sound effects. The Gomu Gomu raises its purple upper with volt laces, Luffy's Jolly Roger on the tongue, in swirls of smoke. The Mera Mera burns in a decor of flames with its turquoise swoosh. And the Ope Ope, berry red and jade, floats amid the shards of a Room, signed with the heart of Law's Heart Pirates.

Distribution is engineered for rarity. In Japan, the Tokyo pop-up « Dr. B's RESEARCH LAB » (September 4-6, lottery access) handed out one DON!! card per pair purchased, matched to the chosen colourway, and the complete 34-card set (10 copies of each DON!! plus 4 Luffy P-099) is only available through an offer reserved for digital subscribers of Weekly Shonen Jump, from September 18 to October 18, limited to one set per person. English versions of selected cards will be distributed through Nike sales channels and at official One Piece Card Game tournaments. Early quotes on the Japanese market already place the Luffy P-099 around 3,000 yen and each DON!! around 1,000 yen, and if the history of event promos is any guide, those numbers mostly point one way: up.

Release dates and locations

The rollout is gradual and worldwide. Kick-off on September 4 with a Tokyo pop-up, then a September 12 launch in nine cities across Asia and Latin America (Hong Kong, Jakarta, Mexico City, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei, Osaka and more). Europe and the United States follow on September 19 at selected retailers (Amsterdam, London, Milan, Dallas...), before the global launch on the SNKRS app on September 25. A final pop-up is scheduled in Sydney from October 16 to 18. For the most hyped colourways, the window will be short.

Why this is great news for collectors

Beyond sneakerheads, this collaboration is a strong signal: One Piece has never been so central to global pop culture. After the records of the Netflix live action, the exhibition at the Musée de la Poste in Paris and the frenzy around the OP17 set, the arrival of a giant like Nike widens the audience of the licence even further, and every new wave of fans eventually pushes open the door of the Card Game. The mechanical effect: demand for One Piece cards and sealed products rides a deep trend that goes far beyond the circle of players.

Between the three Devil Fruit Air Max Plus, the matching wardrobe and the exclusive DON!! cards, Nike signs one of the most accomplished anime collaborations to date. Fashion fans will find bold sneakers; collectors will keep an eye on these event goodies that people will still talk about in a few years. And if all this excitement makes you want to dive back into the card game, the FoxTCG den awaits. (Source: official Nike press release, about.nike.com.)
